Due to some mitigating personal circumstances, I have to say that I wasn't as organized as I could be this year for Confluence. Still, I had a pretty good time and the art show did better than we expected. Highlights for me were the beer tasting and the Guest of Honor speech and not only because those were the only events I was able to attend as opposed to running or being a part of. The most important things I learned from the GOH speech were to write something that you'd like to read and only John Scalzi can get published just by putting his stuff up for free. I also enjoyed his story about meeting his beautiful wife, Kristine. I appreciated having [livejournal.com profile] amg04 to help out running for food for us and much appreciation also for Bonnie, [livejournal.com profile] moonbeamjedi and [livejournal.com profile] pengylady who were extremely helpful during all parts of the art show! It was great to see [livejournal.com profile] kosaginolegion and others. (I'm sorry to not remember everyone as I'm a bit brain fried at the moment.) This year's production went off well and caused much laughter and a few groans at the puns therein. I was especially pleased that we needed to build more panels on which to hang art than last year for this years art show. I would have liked more 3-D art but I realize that this is a lean year for people and they are probably having to take on more work to make ends meet. I got to finally see [livejournal.com profile] dr_zfrq in person at the dead dog filk at [livejournal.com profile] dreamdancer85's place. In all, I'd say it was a good con for me despite the events leading up to it.

The answer is, apparently, El Nino. Still, I would very much prefer snow as that doesn't seem to flood the basement. Also, I'd like to have a nice good ground freeze to kill as many insect larvae as possible. On the other hand, I don't miss the overly cautious/clueless drivers in Pittsburgh snow storms and the raiding of the stores for bread and milk every time we're due to get more than one inch of snow, etc. I hear we'll be getting snow later on this week. As with all predicted weather, I'll believe it when I see it.

In other news, I got my hair cut today --well trimmed is probably more accurate. I haven't really deviated from the cut that I've maintained for awhile now but it is shorter than in recent months. It's still about shoulder length, though.

I'm planning on taking my holiday tree down this week. It took me a few days to get it up so it will probably take as long to take it down. Since this is a new tree and new lights I'll have to figure out some method for efficiently breaking down the tree and storing the lights. It's not apparent in the picture, but I'm using blue LED lights this year.

(latte and cookies break)

Yesterday was the local SF organization, PARSEC, meeting and the topic was The History of Filk, presented by [livejournal.com profile] mrgoodwraith. It was interesting and I wish we had more time for it. Maybe there can be a Filk update later on this year at the meeting. After that was a Housefilk hosted by a couple of people in the Pittsburgh Filk scene. The conversation in between songs turned to the Internet and among other things, the blogosphere at which point I remembered this filk written by [livejournal.com profile] annechen67 called Five Hundred Friends and so, of course, I had to share it. Unfortunately, none of this was recorded as not many in the area showed up and we wrapped up by about 9:30 pm. Maybe there will be better attendance at future housefilks.
