RIP favorite gardening gloves
May. 10th, 2009 06:43 pmAt some point, either last year or today, I wore a hole in my gardening gloves in the leather part that covers the webbing between my thumb and first finger on my right hand. I've used these for a number of years so it's no surprise that they've worn out. I did have another pair to finish out my gardening.
Today I planted a Barbara Jackman Clematis and a Merleau Blue Salvia which I hope will survive for years to come. The clematis is planted beside my mailbox, hopefully, to climb up and cover it with beautiful lavender flowers. The blue salvia flowers are actually more violet and I hope it survives where I planted it by the wall to my driveway which is partly shaded by a maple tree. I'm not sure if it will get enough sun.
In the planters I have around my yard, I'm trying some new things this year. In the bigger square planter I planted two Purple Queen annuals, a spike dracaena, some white begonias and Lobelia which are a purple-ish blue.
In a smaller planter, I planted a spike dracaena, a sweet potato vine, some lobelia and begonia. I also planted some begonia and the remaining lobelia in pots around the outside of my house. The rest of the begonia I planted by the wall bordering my driveway next to the blue salvia and small hostas.
Some of the time I was supervised by my neighbor's cat. He/she was taking a nap on our side porch and I must've woken the kitty up when I went to plant flowers in the pots near the porch. The cat was okay with that after I petted it a bit.
