Comment with "Come at me, bro," and:
- I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.
- Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
- Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.

For soranokumo:

1) I have an idea of what fandoms you're into, of course, but I'm curious! What was your first fandom ever?

This one is a little difficult to answer. I'm old enough to remember when we were at the mercy of TV broadcast over the air! LOL! The earliest things I enjoyed watching were Godzilla movies (and Mothra, and Gamera) and Speed Racer. With the advent of cable tv, my brother and I became big fans of Tom Baker as Dr. Who (our first doctor) and also Monty Python. My brother and I were both avid readers and became fans of Frank Herbert, Isaac Asimov and Harlan Ellison in our teens. My brother liked Robert Heinlein but I did not. (Lots more than you asked for, but there you go!)

2) I feel a little ridiculous for not knowing this, but have you spent most of your life in Pittsburgh? Where else have you lived?

I was born in Franklin, PA in Venango County (a few hours north of Pittsburgh). I started kindergarten in Illinois when we lived in Woodridge outside of Chicago for 3 years. Then we moved to Cedar Rapids, IA and lived there for 3 1/2 years before moving back to the Pittsburgh area (Greensburg, PA) when I was ten.

3) Favorite sci-fi author who is not Wen Spencer?
I'd have to say Ray Bradbury. I can read his work anytime. I love the way he uses language in his writing.

4) What's your favorite Wen Spencer story?
I love her Tinker books, but I absolutely can not forget a little short story she wrote called Moon Monkeys.

5) Out of all the anime you've seen, what's your favorite so far? Why?
I love Hayao Miyazaki's work. It would be hard for me to pick one of those. I think the animation is top notch and love the stories.

For [livejournal.com profile] kaitou1412:

1. How did you get into knitting? Did you learn when you were little, grown up?
I learned in my teens from my Aunt Vicki.

2. Why did you decide to get in on the running of conventions and other fan-things, instead of just going to them?
Actually, my first convention, I volunteered for registration and it was the very first Confluence and I was a member of the University of Pittsburgh SF club that was part sponsoring it. My daughter was 1 1/2 at the time and I didn't know that I had a choice! LOL! But later when I graduated from college and had spent a couple of poor years unable to go to the convention and we did go and there was no child care, I decided to get involved doing that at the con. It just seemed like the thing to do!

3. What's the best thing about cooking for you?
Making stuff I like to eat that is healthy. I love being able to recreate a dish in a healthy manner and I also love experimenting with new flavors. I think the only thing I don't like is the prep work! LOL!

4. What's the best thing you've read this year? (Any medium from fanfic, comics, audiobooks and snooty high literature may apply) I just finished a book I think is the best I've read this year, Mainspring by Jay Lake. (ETA: This year I also finally listened to a Librivox recording of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I liked Jay Lake's book better.)

5. What's your favorite music? Why is it awesome?
This one is difficult. I have several criteria for music I like: I can sing to it and/or it tells a story and/or it's upbeat and makes me happy. I love the Beatles and can listen to most of their catalog anytime. I also like Simon and Garfunkel, Annie Lennox (and Eurythmics), Moody Blues, and Queen. Lately I've listened to Vampire Weekend and Michael Franti and Spearhead and the soundtrack to Totem from Cirque du Soleil's show.
