Let this be a lesson
Jun. 29th, 2007 10:31 pmMy friend's car was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer truck. Luckily, it was in afternoon rush hour traffic at very low speed. The trunk/hatch is mushed in but the car is drivable and she did not sustain any serious injuries. She will need to see the chiropractor, however. She was on the way to the airport to drop off her mother for a flight. Yes, her mother was in the car as well. This is the third accident that she's been in this year and none of them have been her fault. However, this one was exacerbated by the fact that she was in the truck driver's front blind spot. She had pulled in ahead of him about a quarter mile before he rear ended her and he apparently didn't see her car. At first, he thought his brakes were sticking and that was what was slowing him down when, in fact, the truck was pushing her car. Since I drive a car with a similar profile (99 Honda Civic DX Coupe), I'll be sure to leave a couple of car length's of space behind me when I pull in front of a large truck next time --just to make sure the driver sees my car!
