April Fool's Day Conficker Worm News Fail
Mar. 30th, 2009 06:37 amWatching our local KDKA news station this morning, I saw a very short news story about the variation of the Conficker worm that is supposed to be triggered on April 1st. The only thing they advised was to ensure that you were using an antivirus software and that it was up to date. While I'm sure the AV companies are glad to have this bit of endorsement, the piece of information that was left out is that Microsoft released a patch for this last October.
In addition, Microsoft and a bunch of other organizations (Symantec, ICANN, VeriSign, etc.) known as the Conficker Cabal have banded together to try to thwart the virus makers intent. More information can be found here and here.
