[livejournal.com profile] amg04 is home! We went to India Garden for dinner. The Klingon of the house doesn't like Indian food so I only get to go out with my daughter or friends who do like it or on my own. On the way out of the restaurant I took some of the seeds for palate cleansing and forgot that they tasted like licorice (fennel seed?). Anyway, I gave some to her and she had it in her mouth before I told her it was licorice flavor and it was just hilarious to see her try to spit it out! (I forgot she's like me and doesn't particularly care for the flavor!) I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. And then we went shopping and on the way home in the car, the radio was playing Paradise by the Dashboard Light by Meatloaf and we sang it together even forgetting the same words and harmonizing here and there. We laughed at the part where we both mumbled and then sang the one word we both knew at the same time! She bought the Christina Aguilera Back to Basics album and I'm threatening to keep it! It is so different from Christina's pop sound and you can truly hear that she has a versatile and well developed voice! And that last song, The Right Man, brings a tear to my eyes. This girl has developed into a woman. And I mean both of them.

The holiday meme that is going around

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Egg Nog with nutmeg, please.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Wrapped, although The Klingon uses the Sunday Comics.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
Blue, this year Blue LED's on the tree.

4. Do you hang mistletoe?
No, I have too many allergies.

5. When do you put your decorations up?
After Thanksgiving until the tree is up some time around the Solstice.

6. What is your favorite Christmas dish that is not dessert?
Chinese food!

7. Favorite Christmas memory as a child?
Going over to my aunt and uncle's house for Christmas dinner with real Polish kielbasa and pickled herring!

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
I wasn't permitted to believe in Santa, but I really wanted to.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
We open all our presents on Christmas Eve. Stockings are set out late Christmas Eve night for Christmas morning. I started this because, when my daughter was little, we went over to Grandma's on Christmas morning to open presents from them. So we'd have our own private celebration Christmas Eve night when the lights looked the best on the tree after church.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree?
Blue lights, silver, white, crystal, and blue ornaments and silver garland. I've been doing that for four years now and always get compliments. I used to decorate it with multi-colored lights and multi-colored ornaments and handmade ornaments from various places including ones that my daughter and I had made at the church craft fairs but when she ceased to be interested in helping me decorate the tree, I decided to do this one. I still have many of the old ornaments although I gave the wooden ones that my mom painted to my brother to enjoy since I'd had them for a long time.

11. Snow! Love it or dread it?
I love snow when I don't have to drive in it. I love waking up after a several inch snow and going outside early when everything is so bright and peaceful.

12. Can you ice skate?
I used to but the knees and ankles say no way now.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
I think it was roller skates!

14. What is your favorite Christmas Dessert?
Warm apple pie. (I like fruitcake, too.)

15. What is your favorite Christmas tradition?
What we do currently is go see a movie and then eat Chinese food sometimes with my friend Teri. By the time the actual Christmas day rolls around we've done all the celebrating with extended family and it's just the three of us (The Klingon, my daughter and I). We spend the day together and enjoy each other's company and that's what is most important.

16. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?
Candy canes are essential. ( I agree with Bronx_Baroness on this one)

17. What tops your tree?
K-mart called it a "snowflake" but it's star shaped.

18. Which do you prefer -- Giving or Receiving?
Definitely Giving!

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song?
Santa Baby sung by Eartha Kitt

Your turn!

Earlier this year a decision was made to fill in the music bastion at Point State Park in Pittsburgh. This feature consists of colonial era brick and traces it's history back to the French and Indian War and before. In preparation for the "renovations" which will make it a more usable space, a crew was using a backhoe further in the park behind the Fort Pitt Blockhouse and unearthed some remains --bone fragments that probably date back to the colonial era.

"Everyone recognizes this is a historical area and they need to be careful. But this was a situation where we didn't think we were digging deep enough to disturb anything," said Chris Novak, a spokeswoman for the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, which manages state parks. "I don't see any reason this should hold up the project, but we'll need to be careful in moving forward."

The place is steeped in history, at what point did you think the artifacts ended?
