History or progress?
Dec. 14th, 2006 10:56 pmEarlier this year a decision was made to fill in the music bastion at Point State Park in Pittsburgh. This feature consists of colonial era brick and traces it's history back to the French and Indian War and before. In preparation for the "renovations" which will make it a more usable space, a crew was using a backhoe further in the park behind the Fort Pitt Blockhouse and unearthed some remains --bone fragments that probably date back to the colonial era.

"Everyone recognizes this is a historical area and they need to be careful. But this was a situation where we didn't think we were digging deep enough to disturb anything," said Chris Novak, a spokeswoman for the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, which manages state parks. "I don't see any reason this should hold up the project, but we'll need to be careful in moving forward."
The place is steeped in history, at what point did you think the artifacts ended?
