Love, Love, Love!
Nov. 7th, 2006 04:27 amSaw the Cirque du Soleil About Love Beatles show tonight. It was amazing! It's the first time I've seen one of their shows in a dedicated space and I'm even more impressed. If you ever get the chance to see one of the Cirque Du Soleil shows in their own theatre space, take it if you can possibly afford it. We opted for the middle of the line seats but I bet even the people in the "cheap" seats enjoyed the experience. I love the Beatles music. I was just thinking that the Beatles taught me alot about close harmony without my having any formal music education. It's probably the earliest music I remember from my childhood (Yellow Submarine!). The show was an hour and a half non-stop. I continue to be amazed by the physical feats of the performers. The attention to detail is also impressive. They tell stories without much spoken word and acheive the atmosphere of certain times and places very effectively. Of course, the geek in me started wondering what kind of machinery/programming was behind some of the moving pieces. If the crowd was low on energy at the start of the show, they were very *high* energy afterward! Speaking of which, I can't imagine doing any mind altering substances and seeing this show. It would diminish my memory of the experience. I like to be fully present in the moment which I think I wouldn't be able to do if I were under the influence. There was one song that they didn't use that I am a bit disappointed not to hear but I understand why. It is Let It Be. It's one of my favorite centering songs. I use it especially when I'm driving long distances in bad weather. If I could see this show every night this week and not break my budget, I would.
