Weekend recap
Jan. 20th, 2008 08:25 pmAs I posted yesterday, the Klingon and I went out to Westmoreland Mall. I happened to run in to my father and his wife there. They walk in the mall for exercise. We had a bit of a visit and after they had made their rounds we met up in the food court and had something to drink and talked for a little while. It was a nice morning/afternoon. Then the Klingon and I came home and I started to take down the Christmas tree. I got as far as taking the decorations and lights off of it. All I need to do now is dismantle it and put it in the box. Today, I went to church and had a meeting after church. Then I went to Whole Foods for milk and other things. Last night I put a pot of black beans and kidney beans on to soak. When I got up this morning I put them on to boil for an hour while I got ready for church. Since neither of us would be home (the Klingon went to see Cloverfield), I turned the heat off of the beans and covered them. When I finished shopping and got home from church, I cut up carrots, celery, green pepper, onions and garlic to go in the soup. I sauteed these in a bit of olive oil and added to the beans. I also cut up some leftover ham into cubes and added that to the soup. I cooked that for about half an hour until the vegetables were tender. I also added cumin and a friend's family secret spice mix. (I'm sure she told me but I've forgotten now except for knowing that there is cayenne pepper and garlic powder in it.) I also added salt to taste. I think it tastes yummy. I mashed some of the kidney beans to thicken the soup a bit. Since the Klingon won't eat it and it's made so much, I'm going to take it to a meeting I have on Tuesday night.
