The trick of finding things
Mar. 27th, 2009 09:01 pmLast night I got a call from a friend who was looking for her birth certificate. No, I didn't have it, but she has called before when she's lost items and somehow manages to find them when I'm on the phone with her. Often, I'm making suggestions as to where to look. Sometimes my suggestions help and sometimes they don't make a difference. I think she's able to find the item because she focuses more on looking when on the phone with me. Well, it didn't work last night so after work today I came over. Now this friend also makes the best macaroni and cheese and had made a batch with smoked gouda. With the promise of this for dinner, I was easily enticed. I believe I spent a couple of hours looking when we finally decide to look in her basement at the boxes of paper, pictures, nostalgia, etc. that she had stored down there. On passing the refrigerator, she asked if I was hungry and I answered, "Yes."
So she heated up some macaroni and cheese in the microwave and I proceeded to eat. Meanwhile, she went into the basement and started looking. I finished eating and came down to help. She got out a box and lifted out some papers to look through them. I looked in a plastic bag housing some folders when a folder labeled "Birth Certificate" caught my eye. I remarked "You know it's scary when there is a folder labeled 'Birth Certificate'."
She looks at me incredulously and asked, "What?"
"I said there's a folder labeled 'Birth Certificate'" and proceeded to pull it out and open it. And, lo and behold, there is the document in question along with immunization records. We both laughed! Not less than 3 minutes after I've eaten and come down to the basement am I able to put my hands on the very item for which she has been frantically searching.
I told her, "I'm so blogging this."
