It is a sad day.
Sep. 14th, 2008 04:29 pmKeiko McDonald has died. She was one of the most memorable professors I had at the University of Pittsburgh. I took a class called, "Ghosts, Masks, and Actors" about Japanese theater forms from her as a fulfillment of one of the requirements for graduation. She also taught a class called "Samurai and Western Films", which
dergeis took and I had the pleasure of showing at least one film for when I worked at Pitt's Media Services. She really had a passion for these topics and it showed in the way she taught classes. I learned a lot about the social and cultural values of Japan from my class. More recently, every now and then, I'd see her running in Schenley Park while I was driving in for one reason or another. She is one person whose loss is huge. I wish now that I'd had the chance to let her know what an impact she had on my life and probably the lives of all the students who took her classes. I know they were popular way back when I was in college and at that time anime' was barely known. I can imagine that her classes had been very popular now.
