Last year the event was called Stride-n-Ride and held at the Pittsburgh Zoo. This year it's called the MDA Muscle Walk. I'm in Team Knitsburgh. Last year there were 3 of us on the team. This year we'd like it if we could make it to 10 members. Last year we raised a little over $500. This year we're shooting for $1,000. My teammate,
bethb, is issuing a challenge to her readers to give up something you buy every day for one week (your favorite latte or bag of chips with that sandwich or drink water instead of a soft drink) for one week and take the money you don't spend and donate it to MDA. I think we can all do that. But no matter how small or how large, we'll appreciate your donation. If you want to join us, click here.
MDA is the Muscular Dystrophy Association. You might be familiar with the Labor Day telethon hosted by Jerry Lewis. That is done for the benefit of the same group. The MDA researches and helps people with a whole bunch of diseases of the neuro-muscular system. A couple of the more well known diseases are Muscular Dystrophy and ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis aka Lou Gehrig's Disease). I've known at least one family who has had to deal with a family member who suffered from ALS and eventually died. I'm working to help find a cure. Won't you consider making a donation?
