A few of my LJ friends, annechen67 in this entry, in particular, have used this fun writing exercise as also a mental exercise in emergency preparedness. If "insert emergency here" were to happen, how prepared would you be to go with out utilities, food, water, etc. for a few days? What route would you take out of your community? How would you meet up with family, if the emergency occurred while you were all separated? These are good things to think about.

I didn't read any of the zombie posts (sorry, you wordsmiths out there, I tend towards the RL stuff on LJ) but what did people do about their books and media in the disaster? Did anybody have a good disaster plan for their information?

Interestingly, no one mentioned books and media except to consult any references on fighting a zombie uprising, etc. I have all my important papers in a fireproof box which I would take with me if I had to evacuate but I would probably leave most of my books, movies and music behind. I think when people go into a survival mode, they only think about providing for their immediate needs and not about long term things.
