A couple of days ago, [livejournal.com profile] blueeyedtigress posted her own take on cohousing. It would be really nice to live in close proximity with my friends who enjoy the same past times and genres of fiction, etc. But whatever happened to getting to know your current neighbors and finding common ground with them? I sort of know my neighbors but I don't spend any time at any of their houses. I sometimes think about organizing a picnic for our street but I'm too busy in other activities to have the energy or time left to organize something locally. Perhaps, instead of wishing we could form intentional communities, we should intentionally get to know our current communities. It might make things better for all of us in the long run.

Next, Neil Gaiman posted a link to this house on his journal a couple of days ago. Which got me thinking about the fact that I know some very good, not yet famous artists and I could have (employ/pay) them to paint murals on my walls. Sure, it wouldn't be a Brian Froud or Charles Vess mural but it could be even more special because it was painted for me and not the prior owner of the house.
